2015 Champagne Dom Pérignon
With ample time for creative planning prior to filming,
I thoroughly studied Dom Pérignon to ensure the video aligns seamlessly with their brand and complements BB&R’s production style.
I thought you might find it intriguing to hear about my planning process for this project (apologies if it’s not!). Here are the videos that sparked my inspiration:
I chose to position Vincent in the Sussex cellar against a backdrop of mirrors, which adds visual intrigue and complements other shots featuring reflective surfaces.

I observed that many Dom Pérignon videos blend black-and-white and color footage seamlessly.
Interview with Chef Daisy Ryan
The Yquem social media video includes captivating scenes of swirling glasses and transitions of light, which inspired me to include similar shots accompanied by elegant music.

Below, I’ve included a pre-edited video where I combined captivating shots used by Dom Pérignon. This approach ensured I had a clear vision of what I wanted to capture on the shoot day. We only had one day to film the interview, capture photos, and record additional B-roll footage.
Setting up the scene
During the interview session, I had the pleasure of working alongside my trusted friend Kristof, whose assistance was instrumental throughout the day. Together, we meticulously set up our equipment at BB&R in Sussex, carefully selecting our gear to ensure optimal performance. Our primary camera of choice was the Canon C500 Mark II, renowned for its exceptional image quality and robust capabilities in capturing the nuances of the interview setting. Alongside it, we deployed the Canon R5 as our secondary camera, strategically positioned to capture alternate angles and additional perspectives, thereby enriching the visual narrative we aimed to convey. This dual-camera setup not only facilitated comprehensive coverage but also allowed us to maintain flexibility and creativity in capturing the essence of the interviewee’s story.
B-rolls
For each B-roll shot, we recorded at 60 frames per second (fps) to provide flexibility in post-production editing, enabling us to effectively slow down the camera movement as needed.

To capture specific moments, I employed a variety of equipment. For instance, I utilized the Canon R5 digital camera equipped with a Canon 85mm f/1.4 lens, which allowed me to achieve precise focus and depth of field. Additionally, I incorporated the Pentax 6×7 medium format camera for its unique ability to capture detailed and high-resolution images, complementing the digital capabilities of the Canon setup. Furthermore, I integrated Polaroid cameras into the process, leveraging their distinctive instant film format to capture spontaneous and authentic moments with a nostalgic aesthetic. Each piece of equipment played a crucial role in ensuring diverse and impactful visual storytelling throughout the project.
