Drinking Well
I remember when
the first episode of the Drinking Well podcast series was being created. It was something new for BB&R, and I only heard the final result after its release on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, or Amazon Music. At that time, there were no significant plans to dedicate much time to promoting the project, so we didn’t take photos or record videos of the conversations.
However, this changed over time. Initially, I recorded entire hours of conversations on camera next to Simon, who was recording the audio. Additionally, I tried to capture the best moments with photos during each episode.
Now, the process is somewhat different. After setting up the lights in the interview room, I mainly film B-roll shots in portrait orientation with my mirrorless SLR. At the end of each interview, we decide which question will be asked again for the promotional video.
I record this in two takes; after positioning the C500m2 correctly, I film the guest’s response twice. Then, I reposition the camera to capture the host asking the question and their reactions while the guest responds. Finally, I also film shots of the drink being promoted, the pouring process, and the tasting moment.
To edit the video, I decided to take the podcast’s logo, isolate each element in Photoshop, and animate it to the beat. The marketing team then decides on the mix of conversations and responses.
I capture photos with a digital camera. Additional shots are taken using my Pentax 6×7 film camera. These photos lack full sharpness as I aimed for a dramatic lighting effect reminiscent of Caravaggio’s paintings.
This project allows me to be very creative, and I enjoy the opportunity to express myself through the photos related to the podcast.
